Why people want to be anonymous?
For centuries people have wanted to be anonymous for all kinds of reasons. The word anonymity came from the Greek language, and means “without a name”
Many people do not like having a trail of any kind coming back to their real name. If people have the feeling of anonymity they will feel superior to others. Whether they have a threat for their lives or have different political views, being anonymous is important, although can be abused.
Legal and practical uses
Often tip lines are set up for people to make anonymous calls on reporting a crime if they do not want to be publicly known as a “nark” or “snitch.” They may also be afraid of their life if it is known that they are the ones who ratted someone out. Another example is somebody making a donation to a charity and does not want their name disclosed for whatever reason. It could just be that they don’t want people to know they have money and want people to treat them different so they prefer to have their name sealed.
Anonymity Abused
Some people like to harass, abuse, and torture others once they are anonymous. Others may want to avoid being captured by authorities if they plan on committing a crime so they conceal their identity. For example, most of us our familiar with finger print technology so by using gloves, they take a step further to protect themselves. Does the famous OJ Simpson case ring a bell? Another popular reason could be money. In the United States the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) is in place and taxes on money made which can be 10-50% of your money! Now if there was a way to receive money anonymous without a paper trail such as cold hard cash, you wouldn’t have to disclose your income. This is not only unethical in many matters, but is also illegal and is considered tax evasion. But hey, when you make $75000 under the table, at an IRS 30% tax rate, you could save $22,500! Even Al Capone, a notorious gangster as most of you know, remained anonymous. Mr Capone always conducted business through his wing mans and never had any accounting records in his own name. His own mansion was even put in his wife’s name, Teresina Raiola.
