Your computer leaves a trace of sites visited & files deleted

It is no secret that if you have been around on the internet or computers since the late 1990s, you might know some terms such as “Cookies” “Browser History” and “Recycle Bin” — and no we are not talking about chocolate chip cookies.  An internet cookie is a piece of information sent to a browser by a web server or site that you have visited. The browser then returns that information back to the web server or site.  There are tons of cookies on your computer unless you clean them.  This goes along with your browser history which also is stored on your computer and contains a list of all those websites you have visited!

Some of you may know you can goto Tools -> Internet Options -> and delete the History and Cookies from there — which is true.  You may also know you can delete a file and then empty the recycle bin and you probably think that file is gone forever.  Wrong!  Technology these days makes its possible to recover deleted files, history, and other sensitive information.  There are free programs out there, not just the FBI has the capability to recover files.  I am going to recommend you a program that a lot of people use called Webroot Windows Washer.  Basically, this program not only cleans up space, but makes sure files are unrecoverable.  You can add the same bleach options that the US government uses when they get rid of old computers and hard drives.  They have DOD, NSA, and even Gutman bleach options to ensure your files are gone forever.

Check out all the features and benefits of Windows Washer.

They also have a free trial which lasts for a month or so, so you can decide if it you like it.

If you own a domain name, your information is at risk

When registering a domain, remember how you were asked for your name, e-mail address, contact information, and other personal details?  All this information is for the public to look up with a simple search.  By performing a WHOIS on your domain name, your information is shown.  Try using this neat site, http://www.whois.sc/ and type in a domain name such as myspace.com.

Look at what it returns:

Registrant:
MySpace, Inc.
6060 Center Drive
Suite 300
Los Angeles, CA 90045 US
Domain Name: MYSPACE.COM
Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:DNS Admin, Myspace
Fox Group Legal
Intellectual Property Department
PO Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213
310-369-1000
Record expires on 23-Feb-2013.
Record created on 22-Feb-1996.
Database last updated on 3-Mar-2008 03:35:49 EST.
As you can see, their address and phone number are displayed.  Fortunately, you can protect and hide your information.  Many domain name registrars offer something called “WHOIS Protection” which will protect your information and even set up free E-mail forwarding.  Domain registrars charge as little as $1.99 or as much as an extra $10.  Some even offer this protection for free, such as NameCheap.

You might just think you can set your domain name to fake contact information, however, this does violate ICANN’s rules and could have your domain forcefully shut off.

Do you have a MySpace, Facebook, or other online profile?

Sure you want to be social or fit in with everyone else, but you are giving up your anonymity!  People often search these things and find relevant information relating to you including pictures and other information.  They will contact your friends and social engineer them into giving out information on your where-abouts and your phone number.  In this day of age, even police and news reporters turn to MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, Hi5, and every other popular social network out there in hopes of finding you.  Even if you don’t have recent pictures or information, these sites record your IP address and they can find where you last logged in from.

Do yourself a favor and ask yourself if having a social profile such as one of these is right for your situation.

Use throw away E-mail addresses as much as possible

By using a throw away E-mail address each time you register for a site or buy a product leaves you in the shadows.  Perhaps even better is that you won’t have to worry about all the spam and junk mail coming in. Throw away E-mail addresses typically expire within hours and once you get what you need from the mailbox, you won’t ever have to login again.  The government and everyone will be left in the dark and will have no way to monitor your activities as you will be using a different E-mail for everything.

Some sites I will recommend for throw away E-mail addresses are:

http://www.mailinator.com and http://www.spamhole.com/ and http://throwawayemailsite.com/ and http://dodgeit.com/

Being paranoid is not a bad thing.  Always switch up providers and never relogin to the same E-mail after you get what you need from it.

In addition to throw away E-mails, if you need something for a longer term, use a free E-mail service that is not as popular as Gmail or Yahoo as they are more likely to release your information.  Some free E-mail providers would be http://email.myway.com/ and http://www.mail.com and http://www.techemail.com/ and http://www.glay.org/ and http://www.vfemail.net/

Remember to stay anonymous in all areas of the internet and the world!

Get a free quick anonymous voicemail

I want to tell you all about two ways to get a free voicemail set up quick so you can get messages left there without having a trace to you.

A site called K7 at http://www.k7.net/ offers a free voice mail and fax phone number.  There set up time is seriously in seconds.  They even have an option to have your voice mails sent to your E-mail address!  The only downfall I really see with them is the only area code you can get is 206, but who is complaining for a free customizable voice mail?  You can create your own greetings and everything.  Best of all, there is no advertisements when people call it.

Another way to get a free voicemail I want to throw out there is that you can find unused phone numbers.  Find an area code and common prefix that is used for cell phones.  Then start calling them and hit # and enter the default security code 9999 and you can find hundreds of voice mails that aren’t used which you can take over.

By using either one of these options correctly, we can be anonymous the way Ron Paul would like us to be!

Your IP Address can leave a trail to you!

Hey, did you know your Internet Protocol (IP) address can be used to track you down.  Anything you do on the internet, could result in your IP address being disclosed to the wrong people.

I am going to talk about how you can hide or spoof your IP address to something else so you will be virtually untraceable.

First of all, let me explain to you a little more in depth what an IP address actually is.

An IP address is a unique address that certain electronic devices currently use in order to identify and communicate with each other.  By using your IP address when browsing and ordering things online, you are not anonyomous.  With a court order, government officials could subpoena your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and find your physical address to your house all because your IP address is out in the blue.  Let me explain some ways you can remain anonymous.

Free Proxy Browsing Sites
There are several sites out there that will act as your proxy.  This especially comes in handy when your work or school might block certain sites like MySpace or Facebook.  By using a proxy browsing site, you can surfer anonymous without worries that your IP address will be shown to others.  I compiled a list of some sites that work like this.  Try it out for yourself!  When visiting one of these sites, just enter the URL you want to visit and start browisng anonymous.

http://pogoproxy.info/
http://studentprox.com/
http://unpassed.com/
http://monkeyprox.info/

http://www.hidemyass.com/
http://www.myspacebypassproxy.com
http://www.canhide.info/
http://www.proxybrowsing.com/
http://www.rapidcloak.com/cloak/
http://www.unblockmyspaces.com/
http://www.proxyex.com/

You can test to see and test that your IP address changes, by visiting http://www.anonymousphone.net/ip first normally, then entering the URL on one of the listed above proxy sites.  There are thousands more of these out there.  If you find any you really like, feel free to let us know and we will add them to the list.

Open Proxies
- This is still easy but requires a little more work in finding open proxies.  In most cases, using an open proxy that is laying around is not illegal.  A proxy server is a computer network service that allows you to basically bounce through their IP adress and then connect to a website or service.  There are many open proxies but often are hard to find working ones out of the bunch.  A list we will recommend is http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html but you may want to search around for other sites.  To use a proxy, you will need to change your Internet options and insert the proxy server.  In Internet Explorer 7.0, just goto the Tools on the menu bar, click Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan settings -> Click Use a proxy server and insert the IP address & port.  Then try visiting our IP locator page at http://www.anonymousphone.net/ip/ and see if your IP address changed.

I hope this helped you out!  Feel free to comment or ask questions.  Alternatively, you can always use a coffee shop or another form of a public wifi network and do your browsing and ordering from there.
